Candlestick Patterns: Doji, Hammer and Engulfing
MarketLens Editorial · 12 Oct 2026
Candlesticks draw each session's OHLC as a body (open to close) with wicks (high and low).
Patterns MarketLens detects
- Doji: body smaller than 10% of the range — indecision.
- Hammer: small body near the top with a lower wick at least twice the body — buyers rejected lower prices.
- Shooting star: the inverse of a hammer.
- Bullish / bearish engulfing: a body that fully covers the previous session's opposite-colour body.
Reliability
On their own, candlestick patterns have weak predictive power. MarketLens reports them for context only; they do not drive the forecast models.
