Market Sessions: Why Stocks, Forex and Crypto Trade Differently
MarketLens Editorial · 12 Oct 2026
- Stock exchanges such as NSE and BSE trade on weekdays during fixed hours (09:15–15:30 IST) and close for public holidays.
- Forex trades around the clock from Monday to Friday across global centres.
- Cryptocurrencies trade 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Impact on forecasts
MarketLens counts the number of trading sessions between the latest data and your target date. A target date on a Saturday is invalid for a stock, so we suggest the nearest valid weekday. Crypto forecasts can target any date.
Exchange-specific holidays are not yet modelled; if your target date is a holiday, there will be no actual session that day.
Time zones
Daily bars are stamped in each exchange's time zone, which is shown with the data timestamp.
